My ski buddy and I spent two nights at Pension Karlberger and had a great time. The location was absolutely perfect, only a few meters to walk onto the main Gondola. Richard the innkeeper was a wonderful host and made our stay quite enjoyable. They have a good choice of room accommodations and the prices are very fair. ||||I will definitely stay there the next time I go skiing in Kitzbuhel.

I had the good fortune of spending a night here during a motorcycle trip of mine last August. But most importantly, I had the good fortune of meeting the host, Richard - can't speak highly enough of him, I have yet to be met with such hospitality. Amazing man.
The pension is nice and warm, has a cozy living room with a fireplace, and was worth what it cost IMHO. The room was very fine, nothing too fancy, just simple, clean, warm and functional. Mine had a balcony with quite the view (which actually extends to all the rooms on that side), everything one might need and a nice big relaxing mattress.
The food was utterly delicious - I highly recommend it, especially if you are lucky enough to have it prepared for you by Richard.
Well worth the 5 stars in my opinion.

Wonderful, cute, cozy place hosted by Richard, who really made us feel at home. Superb location, close to the main lift to the slopes, lovely views of the town and the mountain, very clean and comfortable... nice breakfast, and great coffee at all times! Sitting by the fireplace and enjoying the ambiance, the company of the host and his drink offers, we felt spoiled. A big thank you from us and hope to be back...

A group of us stayed here late march for a skiing trip. The location was perfect and service was very good. Friendly atmosphere in front of the fire on an evening. Rooms are pretty basic but are all you need for the time you spend in them.

We travelled here as a group of 2 couples in March 2017.|We booked last minute via crystal and got what I thought was a good deal - how little I knew; it was actually a spectacular deal.||We arrived late on the Saturday night and were disappointed to have to walk with our cases from the hahnenkamm Car park as the transfer bus couldn’t fit up the road ( a gripe for Crystal, no reflection of the accommodation but worth mentioning for UK guests perhaps with young children.)||The chalet itself is in an enviable location looking out into the finish area of the famous Streif and in mid season you can literally Ski to the back door. A short walk less than 2 minutes to the main gondola awaits you in the morning - no stress even in ski boots as it’s down hill.||The rooms were more than large enough, the beds comfortable and the shower hot - what more do you need for a skiing holiday? Ours had a balcony that looked out onto the hausberg jump on the streif and caught the sun until late in the day. ||Richard the host was an eccentric man and reading the reviews on here I suspect many people simply don’t “get” his sense of humour. We found him warm, accommodating and happy to help. On one evening we must have sat and drank our way through his entire schnapps collection together!||Breakfast was the usual continental selection and I was aware there was a cooked option at extra cost however we were more than happy with what was already on offer. Richard prepared meals in the evening and although we ate out every night I did hear other guests remarking how good they were.||In summary, a fantastic little hotel in a great location and I’d return tomorrow without question.

Staying at the Karlberger was the key to what proved my best week’s ski-holiday in over 30 years. Kitsbuhel is eye-wateringly expensive but I knew I just had to ski there at least once. So I decided to click on Crystal’s cheapest accommodation in the area to see if I could justify the trip. The blurb seemed too good to be true, yet upon arrival it had, if anything, undersold how good this Pension is. Glancing at some of the TA reviews I’m agog at how anyone could have not enjoyed their stay. Granted, Richard (the owner and host) may not initially come across as the warmest and most welcoming of proprietors but hey, he’s Australian so he’s a bit more Nick Cave than Kylie! A veneer of antipathy on arrival proved fleeting and as soon as we engaged with Richard he proved to be the most genuine and considerate of hosts. We ate in several nights and, because we were the only ones doing so (although we were skiing on a budget, our fellow guests were happy to make the most of the town’s gastronomy) Richard shaped the menu around us. ||There was simply so much to like; good size rooms, freshly renovated, new beds, stunning location, a decent breakfast (though we missed not having freshly baked bread), a cosy communal sitting area by a roaring fire, best-value drinks in town, heated ski-store…I need another fix in 17-18!

The Pension/chalet is perfectly located for the Hahnenkamm gondola. A short walk in the morning, and the home ski run stops by a bar just across the road. If your idea of a good ski holiday is that convenience at a fantastic low price plus a basic breakfast for morning fuel and clean rooms then this is the place for you. ||This outweighs the downsides which are more subjective. The proprietor did not prove very welcoming - keeping everyone waiting whilst he took copies of passports (saying he had had a long day - so had we travelling from the UK!) rather than let everyone go to their room and then return for the 'welcome' tour of ski-room (a dilapidated garage) & dining room (out-dated decor complete with cuckoo clock!). But 'take people as you find them'; he kept a low profile in the main and frankly possibly just added to the charm!||The lady who dealt with the breakfast was very helpful and friendly.
