I've lived in this dorm for 3,5 years, and I absolutely loved this place. Everyone working there is very friendly with students. It's a bit further from the centre but the area itself is very peaceful. There is a nice park 5 mins away and more and more cafes appear nearby. I can only recommend!

I stayed from 2021 to 2022 here, and was initially very sceptical about the property as it had many mixed opinions online. But, because of the extreme demand for housing in and around Berlin, I decided to bite the bullet and I have no regrets.

Management
It may or may not be a good thing that there is no waiting list as if you keep trying, you may be lucky enough to get a room without waiting for long. Carolin and team are super helpful before and during the move-in and afterwards they at least immediately respond to the mails from the tenants.

The Location - Adlershof
If you want to be in the heart of Berlin, do not choose Adlershof. Maybe you can consider the Schlachtensee property. Adlershof has a charm of its own, in the sense, it is a very quiet neighbourhood, has all the essentials and is well connected. Definitely not a bad neighbourhood to live in.

Public Transport
Tram Station right by the dorm and from S Bahn Adlershof, the frequency and connectivity of the trains are very good. So no worries about connectivity to the city. You may have to travel anywhere from 45 to 75 minutes to get to the city centre but you should be able to do so without a lot of transfers at least.

The Dorm
The dorm offers multiple types of rooms, but the majority of the rooms are in a flat-share basis, but there are also single apartments and apartments for 2.

The dorm has a common laundry area with 3 washing machines and 3 dryers. Washing and drying together can cost approximately 4 euros but depends on the program you choose. Both the washer and dryer are commercial units and does a satisfactory job. There is also a study room, bar and a gym.

The Room - Flat-share between 13
The room is roughly 15sq.m including an en-suite bath(with WC) area and is in a house with 12 other rooms.

The room itself is very well thought of in terms of the design. The Denker-Erker area is a very nice touch as I really find it to be a very productive space. The only issue I see with the room is the floor. I assume the architects chose concrete flooring for its durability, but it needs regular maintenance and is a nightmare if anything is spilt on the floor as it may even permanently stain if not dealt with properly. In such a well thought out space, I see this as a let-down. Many students buy non-adhesive carpets for the floors.

The room itself is adequately equipped with a study lamp, a nice wardrobe, a mattress with adjustable wooden slats and the cot also has some nice storage spaces. The thinker-bay has 12 shelves to store books or other items, and is very handy. There is also an overhead storage space. The furnishings are of decent quality. There is one chair in every room, but it is very basic with only a height adjust and no arm rests. Though it gets the job done, it is not very comfortable.
The windows have venetian blinds on the outside, which is good, but because of this the windows are inwards opening and side-hung which makes it a bit inconvenient to partially open the windows.

The bathroom is also adequately equipped with a WC, Handheld Shower with a wall mount, a washbasin and a large mirror.

There is no mirror or a dressing area in the room.

Initially, 13 rooms in a house seemed like a lot, but honestly it is not an issue as the house is pretty spacious and the kitchen too is well equipped to handle multiple people at the same time. You get to meet other students from different countries and it gives you an opportunity to get to know about different cultures. Though this depends on the house and its housemates, I have been very fortunate to have a very friendly group in my house and I assume it is very similar in all other houses from what I see.

There is no Wi-Fi offered by the dorm. It is only the public Wi-Fi by the city or eduroam, both of which are very mediocre at best in my experience.

The Rent -
Is a flat-share worth around €500 a month?
I think given the housing situation in Berlin and with waiting times as high as 18 months with other student housings, this is a good choice for the most part.

Great place to live if you are a student. Yes, we have parties every weekend but this is a student dorm so what did you except ? Everyone is very friendly, the flats are mostly clean, and we have great beer. The rent can be a lot but it's very good for Berlin. Yes, it is very far, but you'll learn fast enough that in Berlin, everything is far anyway. The neighborhood is calm (again, not so much on the weekends). We have a superstore near by and some great restaurants.

The architecture is pretty, the location is great, but the service is horrible. Nothing is being done about silverfish infestations, which affect many inhabitants, there are constantly connection issues and the house management:

a.) tells you to use unsafe and insecure free public wifi (also instable), to leave all of your credit card information susceptible to hackers; or

b.) leads you astray and sends you to other places, which aren't responsible for maintaining the internet here in the first place, to waste your time.

As can be concluded from the experience of many inhabitants, the internet gravely affects you, if you want to do as much, as have a private conversation, which -- more often than one likes -- is impossible.

Because of the way the buildings are constructed, mobile network connections are impacted (likely by the thick walls and windows), which means that, even if wifi fails, one can often not even rely on mobile network connections.

This makes many things impossible, like participating at video conferences, having private phone calls, playing video games, watching YouTube videos, making transactions with online banking, and so on.

It's not like nobody has ever complained about the bad internet, as a matter of fact likely a majority of the inhabitants has internet problems on a regular basis, but each time a complaint is made, one is being told, that "the internet would be working without problems".

I, myself, don't have any wifi access on my phone (Android 13, but only due to the poor internet quality), therefore I receive WhatsApp messages most of the time only when going outside, anytime I want to have a phone call, like to make a doctors appointment, I have to walk a few hundred meters away, as I don't want my neighbors to hear me having intimate conversations right in front of my doorstep.

Over the duration of the last few days, there was at least one instance, where for almost all inhabitants the internet was gone completely, at least temporarily, which, of course, is uncalled for.

"High speed wifi" is being advertised on the official websites, yet unfortunately this is not the case in reality.

I really, really like the location and the inhabitants and if the house management would kindly finally fix the internet for its inhabitants, like by making the ethernet-ports actually usable, this place could be a 10/10.

However, until then, I will leave it a 1/5 stars, due to the puzzling behavior of the rental office towards the tenants.

Alles in Allem ok. Der Service ist nett und die Organisation gut. Schön, dass man auch für nur ein paar Monate bleiben kann. Es gibt jedoch einige Minuspunkte:

- Schlechtes Wlan (also wirklich ganz schlimm)
- Kein richtiger Boden vorhanden (nur unversiegelter Estrich)
- Fitnesstudio in sehr schlechtem Zustand, viele Geräte defekt und dreckig
- Papierfischbefall in Gebäude (nein, keine Silberfische)

BEAUTIFUL PLACE!

All nights I was delighted with party music and after-party kitchen look by my PRECIOUS european neighbour students. They threw occasionally bottles at my door or window to show their welcoming attitude to people out of their party tribe (or generally their tribe).

There are some pics of kitchen setting, but unfortunately I don't have after-party best ones.
Minimum rent term 11 months, you can't get out of contract during that time.I lived there for more than 2 years. In all this time maybe 1,2 weeks of peacefull living. Wanted to change my room for the one with private kitchen, adiministration just lied to me and gave no room. This place is used as disco, it is always dirty and you will live with racist, arrogant european mob, which are there for fun. I WAS EVEN THREATENED BY ONE BELGIAN-FRENCH MALE STUDENT because I complained. And guess what it's NOT first time for this place. This place is dangerous for your life.

Edit: Administration pretending not intelegent in response. Again I wanted to change my room but they just ignored me.

AVOID THIS PLACE!
